X2 M35i to feature 300 hp?!
According to bmwblog and motor.es, they're developing a X2 M35i with 300 hp! I don't know if this is just a leaked report or speculation. The links are:
http://www.bmwblog.com/2017/07/24/mo...-x2-uncovered/ https://www.motor.es/noticias/motore...201738002.html This report would collaborate speculations that a 300hp UKL Mini Cooper Clubman is in development, and is, in fact, what people have been seeing on the Nurburgring in these past few weeks. http://jalopnik.com/mini-is-finally-...-we-1796383794 *IF* all of these is true, then we should also expect a M35i version of the next 1 series based on the UKL. But I don't know what that would mean for a RWD 2-series... |

Only rumours, but I am betting for the 300bhp to be true, and will wait for X2 M35i in about 2-3 years time.
Probably first in X2 and later in X1 and Works. Obviously only AWD and likely only AUTO, since MAN, probably, canīt handle torque. |

Sadly I think you are right and at least in North America we are not going to see a manual. But it's not because it couldn't handle the torque. There are plenty of manual transmissions that easily handle this kind of power.

"plenty manuals that can handle this torque".Yes, but most high torque transmissions are longitudinal (north-south) - both AUTO and MAN.
I believe AISIN has a version of the 8-speed, which can take the 300+ Nm, needed for 300bhp. While I donīt think current manual is capable. Introducing a new/reinforced manual is a major investment for limited no of vehicles. Time will tell. |

The Getrag transmission that's used in the Mini and 2 series active tourer is rated for 350Nm. They have a model that can handle 480Nm and it's about the same size.
What I'm not sure is whether it can be used with AWD. |

Gosh, 300hp/300Nm isn't really a big barrier for east-west configured cars. Alfa Romeo, VAG, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Renault, Peugeot and Volvo all spring to mind in terms of their high-end models.
