Agree on the variable sport steering, it's not worth it on a SUV. However the system is not just about making the steering lighter, it reduces or increases the amount of turn required lock to lock. So for example at a slow speed a certain amount of input will provide a greater degree of turn in and at higher speed less of a degree of turn in.

Be interesting to see who's right then as thats not what I've read or been told, the fact the speed limit appears without the option confuses some people (including dealers) to think it's already included when it's a slightly different option. And if that was true about the camera, wouldn't that mean you'd get the high beam assist as standard too?

It's all a bit of a mystery. HBA is standard in the Australian market, but the speed limit display has been disabled

I can confirm that the standard system definitely picks up the variable speed limit on the M42...

My dealer didn't know this, it was only when Vogit and other forum members reported that it worked on their cars without driving assistant that my dealer took out one of their demonstrators to test the theory for me before I removed this option from my order. He was shocked that it was standard, and BMW's literature on this option is contradictory on whether it is standard or not...

Not sure about high beam assist, I suspect as the camera is there someone will figure out how to code it. Not sure how you would control it without a new indicator stalk though

There does seem to be a lot of contradictory information surrounding options on this car from the brochures, pricing guides, website and dealers.

One of the reasons I use forums is to get info like this so thanks. Although I'm still keeping the option as I want the other things in there.

Just got this update from my SA! The build has come forward considerably from the initial estimate of mid to late June...

"Good news, your car is built and departed the plant, the next step is the transit between the factory and the port in Europe, the car is still showing an estimated date of early May currently but we will play it as it comes."

Great news!!

My dealer told me "they're expecting the vehicle anytime now" so I'm getting very excited too... I know the feeling

5AV ACTIVE GUARD is the basic autonomous emergency braking. It's standard on all trims, even the cheapest SE models. If you add Driving Assist or DA PLUS, you will be able to customise the distance for visual/audible alerts via iDrive. In fact, I don't think 5AV gives you any alerts in advance on the HUD/instrument cluster. It'll just kick in when needed. I may be wrong though.

I have no clue what CROSS-OVER OPERATION is.

Thanks, yeah I cancelled driving assistant as I'm not a huge fan of these driving controls. The one option that I wanted from this package, speed limit recognition, is a standard feature. Hate it when the car is constantly letting off bongs or the steering is vibrating...

According to my reading of the manual, the extra driving assist features can be disabled or customised on / off.

So, you can have all the Intelligent Safety features on, customise on/off for each feature via iDrive, or all off.

P117 -P124

I appreciate if you don't need them ever, but having the ability to enable / disable / customise nailed adding DA+ to the order.
As I can see when I want them all on, all off and all on apart from lane departure warning.

As I am sure we have all said at some stage "you have to stop somewhere". Personally I am not a big fan of sunroofs even though the headroom is still terrific in the X1 with a sunroof. And since A/C got reliable I don't see the benefit. Just my opinion.
