A Public Service Announcement

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Been meaning to post this for a bit, but...work/life, kids, wife...you know...

Last Sunday, washing the car in 45 degree weather, and after driving it home from to self wash/drying/bit of touch up spray, I went to move it into the garage and the entire car lit up like demon Xmas with every error message under the sun. (Car is bone stock, FYI). I couldn't even shut it off for a few minutes.

Long story short, call BMW EM services, they talked me through it & after 30 minutes all I had was the check engine light till later that evening. Straight to the dealer the next day; they did the 1 year/10k mile service (at 5101 miles) & did that [edit]Body Domain Controller recall, which was apparently the culprit. They also loaned me a lovely X3 30i Sdrive which I was quite grateful for, albeit happy to return.

Picked it back up Tuesday afternoon, and been GTG since then (washed it today in similar weather...all is well), but I know there's been debate as to whether or not to do this because coding/tunes/ whatever-the-hell.

However y'all might want to reconsider. Just FYI.

What's the BCM recall? I can't find anything online about it. I don't see anything for the M35i version of the X2. I just picked mine up yesterday from the dealership for the SOS call malfunction fix. They didn't mention anything else.

They gave me a 2021 M235i for a loaner. It was actually pretty nice!

What exactly is the public service announcement here? Don’t use BimmerCode? Don’t wash your car? Be on the lookout for a bad body control module? Please clarify....

I think they mean BDC, Body Domain Controller. I just had to take my M35i in for it's first service and they updated the software for the controller as part of the recall. Took awhile and blew away all my Bimmercode settings, but otehrwise didn't change anything. Easy enough to recode with bimmercode too.

Ok, they didn't mention it when I had mine in. I purposely didn't do any coding yet until they fixed the SOS thing. I'll start coding this weekend. Gotta do the remember start/stop thing, it's annoying. lol

Any info on this recall/update? I'm leaning towards not bringing in my car to the dealer for a while since I'm happy to do most of my service... I didn't get any notices in the mail.

Yep Body Domain Controller, not BCM...sorry about that. Same scenario, when I took the car in, they updated the software.

I didn't get a notice either, however when I went to see what the payoff on the car was on my BMW finance account, it said it couldn't give me the information because there was a recall out. But when I put in my VIN to check, nothing came up.

Weirdly enough, it still says that as of today.

You're a 2019 M35i, right? Maybe it's just a few of us Roaring 20's folks...anyway if that scenario ever happens to you, that could be why.

2019 BMW X2 M35  [9.50]
sorry to revise an old thread. I had my car in this past week for the BDC recall (and inspection now 2 years old). Of course all the coding was blown out. So this morning I went to code and of course it didn't work. I am using an old iPhone for this, but I normally rock an android phone. I tried to update the APP before coding so when it didn't work I sent a service request to BimmerCode. I went so far as to actually install Gmail on the iPhone (previously no email) and of course I needed to turn WiFi back on. So I go to disconnect from the OBDII adapter and the APP asked to update which I did.

Happy ending (keep your minds out of the gutter) it coded fine. I forwaded my orginal request back to support and bascially apologized for jumping the gu, Bottom line update the APP and coding should work. I have serioulsy cut back on my coding this time only did 5 things
Fold/Unfold mirrors (I know about the potential ice issue)
Driving Mode memory
DRL rear taillights outer part only
Warning at start up is gone
Display full text messages which I assume won't work since it hasn't yet and I don't have car play and again android

Did not do ASS memory, kill ASD, kill the volume pop-up. simple stuff nothing in expert and not much else annoys me. Since I only drive in sport around town ASS is not an issue

Good luck out there
