X1 and other BMWs Speaker/Amplifier compatibility and recommandations
Hi All,
I have 2017 X1 with Hi-Fi. I've been thinking to upgrade. There are couple of junk yards where I live, I stopped by there to see what I can get from old BMWs to make my audio system better. Those are the models below that I can remove speakers and amplifier from E90 3 series Harman Kardon 2005 5 series Harman Kardon 2008 7 series Harman Kardon or other high level brand I wonder which amplifier should be compatible with - like plug and play? All BMWs mostly use 4" speakers, I don't think it won't be a problem. Speakers are $25 each. Which speakers from models above would you recommend me to get? Thanks! |

The amplifiers are completely different and ohms of speakers are different. Keep your stock Hifi and add the Bimmertech DSP/AMP.

X1 has three levels of system, base has 6 speakers, HiFi has 7 and the HK has 12.
I wouldn't bother with any of them and look for after market, even people with the HK setup say its poor! Plus you cant just swap one to the other. If you replace the subs, they will go from 6'' to 8'' with a better sound output, lots of plu and play versions out. |

Bimmertech amp is around $900 - used X1 HK or Mini Cooper F56 HK amp is less than $300 - Can I at least replace my HIFI amp with original X1 HK amp and HK speakers without a problem ? |

I've ordered two vibe 8'' subs and two plug convertors, so if I need or want to remove them, I can. My wife has the F55 Cooper, so if all go's well and the gains have been worth while, the mini is getting a pair too. I'm going to take some videos of before and after, to see if the difference is captured. My system doesn't have an amp, so your results should be better. |

It will improve the sound of HiFi OEM speakers some for the cost, just do not expect a radical improvement. A good upgrade is swapping the OEM amps and replacing the HiFi OEM tweeters with aftermarket/filters, nothing else. |

I changed out my oem non hi-fi speakers for Focal co-ax speakers and love the upgrade. Oem amp has plenty of power to drive these and the subs. Not too expensive.

^^ Which Focal's did you use & where did you source them? Their BMW-specific stuff is hard to find in the states. And I'm a total slut for their sound quality

I have replaced the standard speakers with an aftermarket solution, specially designed for X1 F48 and the results are excellent. The sound is great, even without an amplifier.
The speakers are called MATCH. The cost of the replacement for front is around 250 €, for 6 speakers (twitter, middle and bass). I retrofitted the speakers myself, mounting the tweeter in the corner where the original speaker should be, but without buying the expensive original frame. The design is much better than the original, in my opinion. I'll get back with some pictures soon. |

Also, I made an adapter between the twitter and the trim, using a door stopper in a form of a half sphere. It was very difficult to achieve the shape for the adapter, in order to have a right angle for the twitter. Then I connected the parts using hot melt plastic. I'll try to find some pictures for the post. |
