DO NOT buy one unless you can get the Sports seats.

My last 6 BMWs (out of total 10) have had sports seats for a reason - they are sublimely comfortable and multi adjustable.

Standard seats are total rubbish.

Take heed of my warning, or regret it!!
The X1 sport seats are not the same as the sport seats in other BMWs. Not even close. In a word, the X1 sport seats suck. Spend more than an hour and they are unbearable.

I don't know why are ppl so mad with standard xLine seats. I had a previous version of X1 with standard seats and now I have a new one and driving him (yes, cars are persons to me) every day for the last week. You just have to adjust seats, steering wheel and yourself and it is gonna be fine. In last X1, I was sitting closer to the steering wheel, in what youu may call a sporty driving position. Car didn't roll and I was planted in place. In this one, such a seating position is not recommended cause the car itself does not handle the road like an "ordinary" BMW. Close to, but not quite. So, sit further from the steering wheel, make yourself comfortable as there is a lot of space inside unlike in previous model, and enjoy. Also, lumbar support FTW.

That's what I'm talking about. Find your spot with these seats. I sit back in this one and its fantastic.

Last week I drove my private car for a business trip - 900km there and 900km back.
My only problem (with sport seats) was that about halfway home I changed the settings of the lumbar support, moved the bulge too high, and that was not to the liking of my back. And I had not stored the settings previously, so finding again the right position took a while. But overall, I got out of the car in a very good shape after all day behind the wheel.
I did not expect that.

I quite like the sports seats design, but not the Alcantara. Ordered them in leather, they're quite nice. Best of both worlds.

I'm considering an X1 when my lease is up on my 2014 335 M-Sport. I recently test drove a 2017 X1 with the standard seats. Overall, I was impressed with the X1. However, my only complaint is with the comfort/quality of the standard seats. I would expect more from a $40K+ vehicle. If I decide to go with an X1, I will definitely opt for the M-Sport package or one that has the sport seat option.

If you do, just make sure you spec them in leather, not Alcantara. Like I said, I was super impressed. They look quite lovely.

^ They look great! Thank you for posting that pic. I see that you are in Japan. I hope the US sports seats look like that! Btw, we do not get alcantara seats in the US.

Cheers. That's not my car, just a pic I found of the same seats online. I have a REALLY hard time with the archaic image uploader on this site

There's really no Alcantara option? Wow. the M Sport package here includes as standard manual, Alcantara seats in that same design. Also the door cards are Alcantara. You need to spec them in leather to get the leather doors and power seats. I really couldn't handle the cloth...

You're getting an m sport? I don't know if the standalone sports seats are a different design...

Garage List
The sport seats look great, but I wish they were more comfortable to me. I fell in love with the standard seats in Dakota leather though. They're by far the most comfortable seats I've had, and I've owned a dozen or so vehicles.

I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that I'm 6'7" and have a broader torso and shoulder build. I can sit back flush with the standard seats, but the sport seats tend to push in some.

At the end of the day, it comes down to preference. It's always a good idea to sit in each of the seat options to figure out which one is the most comfortable to you.

We can put almost any option on any X1 here, but no BMW here has the option for Alcantara seats (Except for special editions like the M4 GTS)

There are quite a few countries you cannot order Alcantara in.

M Sport and standalone Sports seats are the same, except you wont get the blue stitching like on the M Sport picture you posted above.

I imagine you also don't get the little M coloured fabric flag strip thing in the bolster?

Those look good and would appear to be more supportive/comfortable than the standard seats.

Sport seat are comfortable. Not as comfortable as the super adjustable comfort seats in my X5, but way more comfortable than the standard X1 seats

I'm used to more lateral support coming from a F22.

However after test driving the NX200 and RDX, I felt the regular seats were the best for me.
The Lexus bolsters were too confining and my wife hated them. I also felt discomfort in the sciatica about 45 minutes in. Apparently I prefer a harder foam for comfort and it is actually cooler for me because I'm not encased in leather or faux leather.

The right adjust/position makes a world of difference too.

Hey guys, I am following up on my earlier post. Yesterday, I took a new X1 with the M-Sport package for a test drive (and yes, it was Estoril Blue...LOL). It was pretty well equipped at $49,000. I must say, I had just stepped out of my 335 M-Sport with sport seats and I found the sport seats in the X1 to be just as comfortable, if not more comfortable than my 335's.

I am very pleased with the overall package of the X1 and I am giving it very strong consideration as my next vehicle. Now that my concerns with the seats have been addressed, I have only one remaining gripe. If I could wave a magic wand and make the X1 perfect, I would give it another 30 to 50 hp, as I found it slightly underpowered at times (Please keep in mind that I am driving a 335, so I am used to brisk acceleration).

Zirenz: M35i?

I have seen indications of X2 coming out, in a couple of years, in a straight M version (300+ bhp?), but X1 35i? 35i indicates I6, which of course, is a no-go.

Source?

Best seats are Sport textile/leather, which I have in my X4. Textile for breathing.

@SCOTT26 mentioned it in the X2 Rendering thread he started, 1st post. Mentions it for both X2 and X1. He works for BMW. I can't see them offering it for the X2 and not the X1.

I don't think it will be a 6 cylinder.

The Sports seats in leather are great for me, no complaints so far on long trips. I have the memory seats with lumbar. Local driving I tend to sit more upright, then on the motorway hit position 2 for more recline. Note memory does not recall the bolster or lumbar settings. But to add, I'd say that anyone much over 190 lb would find these seats a squeeze.
