Correction, I had the rear seat remote release fail on right hand rear seat within first few uses, they fixed but the “Remote release” still appears “sticky”, otherwise all o.k.

Only 24000 kms on my 2018 28xi (2017/08 build).
I had to bring it in for some engine hesitation in certain RPMs but it looks good after a software update. Other than that very good. |

With hifi vs h/k, there is a significant improvement in the h/k over the lower versions, no matter how low. The difference was clear and apparent when I test drove a hifi vs h/k in how much better the h/k sounded, so no, not a waste.

18' with 20k on it now.
-Front rotors and pads replaced because of noise complaint coming from rear when reversing. This was an unnecessary fix but whatever - warranty. -Drivers seat motor makes a massive racket when self-adjusting to a higher setting, with or without someone sitting in it. Only does it when it's colder than -20c. Dealer tested motor and didn't find a fault. -Rear hatch makes a popping noise in cold weather, dealer couldn't replicate noise as it warmed up substantially after we took it in. Oh well wait until next winter. -P0172 CEL came on and went away after about 100km of driving. Oil was changed and software was updated. Don't care about minor issues such as these as its a lease and will be gone once warranty is up.

6I believe jorix was referring to the BMW “loudspeaker system advanced” option [mid level option] rather than HK. The “ loudspeaker system advanced” May be better than the base option but most definitely is not in the same league as the HK option.

So far so good. I have an X1 with Xdrive28i 2018 with 5000 miles
The GOOD: Fit and fit have been exceptional. The engine is peppy and fuel efficient. The body still feels very solid. If you get the Xdrive version you would be hard press to tell that it's front bias and not rear wheel drive. It has incredible amount of room in the back. The 8 speed transmission shifts smoothly. The foot activated rear hatch works well too. Even better than the Lexus and Chevy Tahoe The BAD: Pirelli P7 run flats are a bit loud and firm. My next set of tires will be Bridgestone Driveguard run flat. They run great in my Mazda Miata. Everything works well except for the radio which occasionally reboots itself while starting the car. The rear wiper is a bit weird and seems too long. The blade part that's not covered by the arm doesn't seem to get enough pressure and doesn't wipe the area it covers. The electric steering mechanism has a flat spot where it doesn't feel like it's connected to the wheels at all. The "leather" steering wheel feels like cheap slippery vinyl unless you get the M sport package. Other than minor gripes, I'm happy with it. |

I've bought 2017 X1 X-Drive 2.8 in 8K miles 8 months ago and drove 4K miles so far around Boston.
Sunroof got stuck open 5 months ago (I've posted here actually), that they had to replace the whole sunroof mechanism! BMW is in the middle in reliability, major parts don't fail mostly but small parts. The electric steering wheel is one of the best in entire BMW lineup (except M models of course) which I leased 2014 335 X-Drive but couldn't stand the terrible steering wheel feeling then broke the lease in less than 2 years. |

Purchased my first X1 2 years ago. Just replaced it with latest version. No problems, at all. Just back from longish run to South Coast of England. Brilliant!.

I had mine for 3 years and just over 40k miles.
I had the squeaky strut bushing issue, it was repaired at about 22k. Brakes warped and were warrantied at around 27k. Tires were done about the same time. When I turned it in the sunroof cover fabric had somehow gotten loose. |

Had our X1 for 3 years and must say this is the best value SAV we've ever owned.
Recently brought it in for service as we had an issue with a message on iDrive indicating "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center." Service technician diagnose it to be an issue with the shifter and replaced it with a new one. While they were performing the service, they also found a cracked engine mount and had to replace that as well, all still under warranty. Interesting when we asked how much it would have cost if we had to pay, the service adviser said around $3k Cdn! Now we are wondering if it's worth it to buy extended warranty after our warranty expires on July 2020? Other than that, we have had a previous issue with the heater not coming on during the winter and they found it to be a leak by the turbos and have that fixed under warranty.

2016 F48 Issues
I have a 2016 with about 20K on it. So far these are the issues I have had (currently in the shop and waiting for them to call me)
1) When new they had to replace the window trims on both sides of the car - there was a white film on them that they could not remove with cleaners. 2) The sunroof leaked (twice). The first time they told me that they cleaned the drains. That didn't fix it. The second time they kept the car a full week and eventually replaced the seals. That fixed it but it's not the first BMW I have had with a leaky sunroof (it is actually the third). 3) In the shop now for a check engine light. U019D. No definition of this that I can find specific to a failure - just a vague "communiction error". They determined that what it wasn't communicating with was a sensor that happens to be INSIDE the radiator. So, they are replacing the radiator. They have had the car since Friday. I do have a 2019 330i loaner (so far that seems very nice). |

M sport xdrive 18d, 48k miles, 66 plate Nov, egr valve replaced but bent the fuel line, so that had to be replaced. Apart from that great car. Buy one with the right spec and you’ll be very happy.

2016 sDrive 18d, 132k km.
Problems: - iDrive indicating "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stationary. Have the problem checked by Service Partner." It seems to be a problem with the shifter. Not solved yet - front engine mount cracked - replaced - swirl-flap actuator lever broken. Not replaced. In fact it was just needed to clean the air intake manifold, or was very dirty inside. - oxygen sensor after catalytic converter. Replaced Cons: - RFT tyres are very hard. Replaced - standard seats not so comfortable - standard speakers sounds horrible. Upgraded with better ones Pros: - small outside, big inside - fuel efficiency (medium around 8 l / 100 km) - good visibility - great led headlights - excellent head up display - great iDrive system - good engine - good 8 speed auto gearbox - very nice looking - nice ambient lighting - all the systems and controls very well laid out and very well projected (with the user in mind) - and... everything else about it My advice: go for it! |

2016 X1 28i awd - Canada
93000 km now and still going strong bought it as an ex-rental to use daily for my job. Front pads changed at 45k kms (were beaten up badly as a rental i guess) Front Driver side seat heater changed under warranty Pirelli P7 will be replaced for next summer season my guess is they lasted about 50 to 55k kms with winter swaps. Will be getting Continental DWS tires next i think - already purchased a spare to go in the trunk. No other issues to speak of mechanically. I expect it to continue with regular maintenance for another good while. Has been a great city car/people and stuff hauler and has a deceptive amount of space. |
