2018 x1 how to value demo car

Hi guys

I am new here and this is my first post. Used to drive x3 before. Now considering leasing a 2018 x1. The dealerships I am going to are all in Canada. There is one particular car they have as a demo which has about 4000km on it. I don’t have to pay freight/pdi and admin but on other x1 demos they have with less than 200 km the sales person I talked to over the phone says they can’t waive freight /PDI because the other cars are new is this always true?

On a brand new x1 another dealer offered me 8% below Msrp basically at invoice but would not reduce pdi, although a decent deal it was a bit over what I wanted to spend now on a leased car so I decided to look around for demos. My question is what offer should I start with for the demo 2018 x1 with 4000 km, dep on first year of this car is around 28 percent I believe on 16000km use per year. I figured if I get it for 15% below Msrp meaning another 7-8 percent below invoice based on km on it, it makes sense. What are your thoughts is this price realistic, high/low? Thanks for your help in advanced, I never bought a demo car before. Also for this car the last 3 months would not be covered under current 48 month warranty as this car has been on the road for almost 3 months as a service loaner. Please give me your thoughts.

I got almost 10% off ours when we purchased it new over a year ago, I’d be aiming for 12-15% if buying now...

I’d personally say that the majority of year one depreciation occurs as soon as you drive it out of the showroom. Therefore I’d push for a bigger discount on the used one

Thanks for your input. I think I might be able to get 10% off MSRP right now max if I push harder, I asked for 12% from 3 dealers so far here in Canada but none of them have budged yet on a new one with Admin charge waived. But You are suggesting I should be able to get 12% off a new one now? I just talked to another dealer over the phone and asked for 15% off MSRP for another demo car with 4000km, and freight/PDI waived he said he can waive freight/PDI but give me that much off MSRP. I told him about depreciation over one year and how I think it should be around 15% at least he said it doesn't work that way.

A car with 4,000 kms on it is not new...nor, really, should it be classified as a "demo". I'd be valuing it against Redbook/Bluebook (depending on market) and certainly looking at much >10% discount against new

So today, I went to one of the big dealers in my area. Offered 15% off MSRP on a 2018 X1 Service loaner car with 4500 Km on it. The sales person got my credit card and took the offer to his manager and they rejected it saying it is too aggressive!! Plus he had added bunch of fees too. I asked to remove some, he just said take it off MSRP and give me your offer. I think my offer was pretty fair based on the km on the car. Anyone know any reasonable dealers in Ontario/Canada ?

In the UK we have websites that offer discounted cars from multiple manufacturers, these are pre-agreed discounts with vehicles supplied via a main dealer. This gives you a good idea of the level of discount all dealers should be able to offer. One such example is Broadspeed, having briefly checked this out the current discount on a 20i is 11.3% in the UK...

Do you not have similar companies in Canada? They help take the negotiating out of a deal, some people will buy via the site and others will use it as a bargaining tool to get their local dealer to match the quote

Wow, I would expect more off a car that's been driven.

We ordered ours and payed about 90.5% of MSRP... this included a 2000 rebate from USAA. I'd think more than 10% is possible. My last X3 was a demo with 4,200 miles on it and only 4 months old and I got over 15% of MSRP. Not sure how different it is up in Canada.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, we don't have that in Canada unlike the UK. It is a good business idea though I checked out Broadspeed.

You guys are lucky, we generally always pay more here in Canada and get less discounts on everything. But since you mentioned you got 15% off I am going to try to get close to that, it makes sense. One question on a new car which you got 10% off, did you pay full admin fee and full PDI or did you also negotiate those fees on top of the 10% discount on MSRP of the Car? Is PDI generally negotiable BMW cars? I would assume it would not cost the dealership more than 150 dollars to do prep work on a new car and the rest is just pure profit. So I was thinking of asking them to reduce PDI by 50% if I get a new instead of Demo. I will leave Freight as is.

On the other hand we got pretty lucky with the pricing of the F48 in Canada. I believe we get pretty good value for our money. I priced out identical specs car in EU and it was nearly 50% more expensive! The US market gets really stripped down base sDrive model for the same converted price of our base model that comes with LED lights, AWD and other goodies.

As far as negotiating I would push hard on administration fees, that's pure bullshit. I would try to negotiate PDI as it already had to be done on the demo. Not much you can do about the freight. The other taxes and levies are small and mandatory.

My X1 was a 2017 "executive car" fully loaded msport sticker was 47, I got it for 31 and they gave me 1.9 apr through bmw financial which beat USAA. I think if you can find a good deal go for it.

Wow that is an amazing deal. So far could not even get 11% off 2018 X1 msrp on demo cars here in Toronto, Canada with around 4000 km on them. It is so frustrating here. Talked to 4 dealerships so far most of them are offering 8-9% max on demo plus freight pdi off, when I told them I got invoice pricing (7-8% off msrp) on brand new from one dealer and want more on a demo they say you should take that deal. What sort of mileage did you have on your executive demo? Did you buy it after 2018 models came out?

Any Canadians here who can shed some light on their experience as well?

I just picked up a 2018 demo X1 with 4,000m on it. Not fully load but well equipped, MSRP was 43,900 and I got it for 35,900. BMW also offered me special financing for a demo vehicle at only 1% for 60 months, I feel like I made out very well on this one!
