Why are the tires so skinny?

It looks like it’s on stilts.

Halogen headlights. Sigh.

Any chance for a real M version of this? No, the m performance stuff doesn’t count.

Notice how they don't advertise the once synonymous-with-BMW 50/50 weight distribution.

It seems to be endowed with all the elements that were needed to set it apart as a coupé version of the X1 (large rims, low roofline, rear fascia related to other BMW coupés...), and yet somehow overall it feels a bit contrived and lacks the soul and charm that would justify such a vehicle versus an X1 to begin with, i.e. sacrificing a share of praticality for the sake of sporty and sensual aesthetics.

I will only mention the triangular air vents in the front bumper and the tail lights, both of which made total sense on the concept but have completely missed the point on the production car (vents were 3D carved and have become shallow, tail lights were nice and slender and have become thick, angular and serious).

It feels like BMW have merely done the bare minimum to release their own competitor on this particular market segment and move on, but haven't really put in the time and effort to provide it with the distinctive charm that it needed for it to be worth existing alongside the X1 in the first place, and to be competitive against the Evoque which will probably wipe the floor with it.

PS: apparently the rear roundel isn't automatically centered like the front roundel is when slapped on the hood, as this one is clearly tilted to the right

It Fits in My Garage!

Yay! Finally a shorter four-door. Love the GG color and contrasting stitching.

Can I get it in electric without the sunroof?

And it’s FWD, right ?

Perhaps the AWD version will be alright...

Unfortunately no. The X2 is built on the latest X1 platform which is front drive with AWD as an option. The current X1 AWD has a 56.5/43.5 F/R ratio. The previous generation X1, and the remainder of the X line up, was/is rear drive with an AWD drive option and had a 50/50 F/R distribution.

That’s what I thought. Sigh again.

So it’s a bigger, heavier Mini that doesn’t look as good or have the niche appeal?

I wonder how many units they are forecasting for this model....

The fall of BMW as the ultimate driving machine.

Audi on the other hand it's killing it with their interiors and exterior designs and MB engines are really starting to get my attention.
The Merc GLA and Audi Q3 drive like crap, far worse than the X1. What are you smoking??

And they look like toys: the GLA like someone stepped on it, and the Audi like a cute Barbie car.

Out of the three brands, the BMW will still be the best drive, and the best packaging.

I actually do not think it looks too bad. Love the milano blue, would look hot on an M2 (competition?). Is this car built in Leipzig? I am not against the C-pillar roundel but I think they should have reintroduced it on a more iconic model... not a X2. I would never consider the UKL architecture though. I am still salty the M140i never made it to the US.

Can't make fun of Audi being re-badged VW anymore. BMW is now selling re-badged Mini's.
