Hopefully, BMW will offer no special treatments for the X2. I'd be really annoyed if they limited the rumoured performance versions (135i or M variant) only to the X2. Thankfully, that hasn't been the case with the X3/X4 and X5/X6.

p.s. Larson renders on AutoBild have always been OTT and inaccurate. I wouldn't be surprised if the X2 didn't look anything like these two renders.
Scott mentioned in post 101 above that there would be a M35i xDrive for the X2 and X1

I thought the "35i" post-nominal was being dropped?!

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, emerges as a "hot" X1. My sense is we'll see a hybrid before either that or the "X2".

Limitations on a shorter wheelbase give the vehicle a more condensed look which the X4 has in this current cycle. So the decision was to make it a lower roofed SAV without the many compromises of completely lowering the roof.
The next X4 (G02) is slightly longer therefore allowing a further stretch on the roof line making it less condensed and more in proportion like the X6.
This looks a lot like an M135 just a little taller .. Which means it should really be a fun to drive.

@ Bmw marketing departement: Who's the average customers for the X2? I am wondering because I don't see no point in such car.

It's a BMW GLA. Ugly cheap but the badge makes it desirable

I always wondered why BMW doesn't just have all X-models, xDrive by default.

Because there are people like me who would not buy it if I would be forced to go with xdrive.
I don't need it, I don't want it. I don't need the extra cost on sticker price which in long term involves higher service costs, tire wear, worse mileage, insurance costs and extra weight.
If people want that - great. But I do not and I am glad for the option (here in Europe), to buy the sDrive models.

The more offroad capabilities a car has, the farther the tractor has to go to pull it out from a ditch.

I know people said that when the Evoque was presented as well...
The F48 is pretty boring, the X2 brings a bit more individual look and personality.
At least, let's see it, then judge

I'm happy my E84 sdrive28 X1 was available in rear wheel drive only I didn't go with the 3.5 because I don't need all wheel drive at all and RWD is more fun anyway.

I've owned an all wheel drive vehicle ( Subaru Legacy GT) and it was a decent vehicle but just wasn't very fun to drive in a sporting way. It gives you great confidence in wet and inclement weather but otherwise is quite boring.

Drive any xDrive.

Turn traction fully off.

You are in for a serious treat.

well try that in X1
xdrive in F48 is not the same as in F30 for example, so you definitely are not in for a treat.

Not saying that's a bad thing. Just that BMW needs to come up with something a little more Rad for the new gen of SAV coupe style buyers.

Perhaps two doors would have allowed for the flow down sloped back common amongst the X4, X6 set to work properly.

This design looks more like a competitor for the Merc GLA
I think this was definitely a conscious decision by BMW based on the MINI Paceman. I think the Paceman looks 10× better than the Countryman, but BMW have decided that the next Paceman will be a 4 door with a slightly more sloping roof... I can only imagine this based on sales and feed back from customers - so even if it does seem like a missed opportunity they obviously think it's the right way to go.

Not without a hand built 375hp/350tq 2.0 4 banger.

I will be dead and gone before that happens, and I am not even due for my LCI for years to come.
