Hi
Thanks a lot for the this. Agree, a lot of prep-work needs to go into this before just running out and buying a wiring harness, amp and some speakers. I'm quite sure the base head unit would be able to support HK as in the BMW optional list it doesn't require upgrade of the headunit. The big thing is running and wiring backwards and forwards in the car. So again, big thanks for the wiring diagrams. I don't have access to ISTA myself yet, so getting them here really helped a lot. I have asked both bimmer-tech and Bavsound. Let see what they come back with. Big thanks again! |

Wermuth have you contacted Audiotec Fischer? The harness link was specifically for the Std BMW Head Unit.
Have you also checked out the following European Forum? https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/bmw-b4.html Good Luck https://www.eton-gmbh.com/produkte/c...e/product/bak/ Last edited by Bcborn59; 04-06-2021 at 01:17 PM.. |

The speakers under the seats are driven from the radio, no amplification, no crossovers; there is just a capacitor on the back of the mid range in the doors to get rid of the low frequencies. |

Yes - but the European forum has some good stuff, but not so much on this subject. There is a guy in Germany who specializes in retrofitting. But we the current restrictions it difficult to have him support me with the wiring. Thanks a lot |

I attached per below. That痴 a quite good solution, so I need to contact the local dealer to see what is the price-range With factory standard STEREO system we can recommend the following concept: -amplifier Match M5DSP MKII - https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/matc...ker/m-5dsp-mk2 -Subwoofer Match MW 8BMW-D - https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/matc...cher/mw-8bmw-d -adapter PP-MQS 1,4 - https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/matc...bel/pp-mqs-1.4 This system can be connected directly to your radio and can also be removed without leaving any residue. The two under-seat subwoofers must be wired directly to the M5. However, requires expertise and should therefore be installed by a specialist dealer. We therefore do not have installation instructions for this. More information about our BMW Sound Upgrades can be found online at: https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/en/car-concepts/bmw/ If you have any questions about prices and installation, please contact one of our car hifi dealers. Through their daily experience on the vehicle, they have the necessary knowledge and can create a tailor-made concept for you Last edited by Wermuth; 04-11-2021 at 03:17 PM.. |

That's a start for sure.
That looks to separate the subs from the doors and adding new wiring from the Amp to power the subs. My question would be how do you provide more power to the door and dash speakers rather than be powered by the head unit. |

The Match M5DSP MKII is a 5-channel amp: 4 door speakers, 1 subwoofer.
There is no center speaker output. The existing under-seat woofers (not really subwoofers) should be replaced, so wiring to the M5 can be installed at that time. The single subwoofer output would drive both. |

I don't think the woofers in the base audio system are the same as the subwoofers in the Hifi and HK systems.

From this diagram, as I remember how to read it from the school, it seems that the fron central speaker [number 10] is connected. I bought this https://it.aliexpress.com/item/40013...40344c4dlBMssx and I have connected to the cable that I found under the dashboard but it does not sound. Anyone can help me ? Thanks. |

Which audio system do you have (base, hifi, HK) ? If there is no existing center speaker, then you have the base audio system that does not have an amplifier nor center speaker output.
This is what the op @wermuth tried to do and there was no signal: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...17&postcount=3 |

Thanks a lot for all the feedback and input to the project. I ended up making a very simple solution just replacing the speaker in the back doors too with HK. I know they are made to be paired with tweeters but sound-wise was still a massive upgrade from the base speakers.

Wermuth did you find out where the center speaker cable was leading to? I'm asking this because I'm upgrading a base F48 with an Audison AP8.9 bit and have a channel available for a center speaker!

Unfortunately not - I知 quite sure that the center cable runs to the amp in back/trunk. As F48 only have center speaker if there is an amp. A

Just want to say thank you for the details on upgrading the sound system and ways to go over them. Just gotten the F48 myself with base audio and the sound system was just overall lousy that I plug my earpiece and drive.
I should go for the door window tweeter first. Too bad the center speaker couldn稚 work for base audio. |

Hi I went to ask some china sellers about how to connect the center speaker. One was giving me a logical answer which is to connect to passenger side mid range speaker with the extension wire provided.
Another one is quite interesting, they have an instruction video to show you and connect to the red/white and brown/white wires at the back of HU main connector. I just snapshot the part where you slot in the center speaker wires. Wonder it it works. |

Not yet as I have to do the maintenance parts first like transmission cooler, oils , shock struts, tires before moving on to speakers and entertainment system. But I知 sure I値l be adding that center speaker in the future.

i am new to the forum, usually reading and getting information for the mod I plan to do on my F48 X1 2021. In case anyone still want to add Center speaker or tweeter on the base model, here are some useful wire mapping on the main plug as described in the Chinese video from limsheng. The white red and white brown essentially are the +&-ve output from Head unit (HU) to rear right speaker RR (i.e. pin 1 and 5 of the main plug mapping shown in one of the uploaded photos) For the spare speaker cable (Black/white & black purple) found at the empty slot, no signal at all and it doesn't connected to the HU. I originally planned to trace the other end of that spare cable and hopefully make use of it but haven't done so. So, i finally followed what the Chinese video suggested, connecting extra cables to the HU via sharing signal from pin 1 & 5, as shown in one of the photos. The final setup looks good aesthetically but may not be so for the overall sound stage since that is just a shared channel with the RR. Two questions left unanswered: 1. Without adding any amp or complicated rewiring works, which channel should we use for the Center speaker for the best result (as you can just join one of the four channel FL, FR, RL and RR) and 2. Where does that spare cable connected on the other end. Hope someone could shed some light on these. Thanks! |
