Not laughing. I did the same -- went to the local Ford dealer and checked out the latest Escape titanium edition with the new Ford Sync 3 system (which replaces last year's horrible Microsoft-based MyFord Touch system). Sync 3 is fast and intuitive, and overall I liked the Escape a lot. I especially appreciated the fact it had physical buttons for all the primary functions that the touchscreen had.
However, by the time I added the moonroof, 19" wheels, option package 301A, etc, the Ford was pushing $32K.
For an extra $10K I'd rather have a real BMW, nicely optioned, with its reportedly better driving dynamics, faster acceleration, superior AWD system, upscale cachet, and its included 4 yr/50k service plan instead of an Escape, even though it's a very nice Escape. Just my humble opinion.
