I agree with you, one has to wait to taste what they've cooked; one cannot judge the soup before it's done.
I'm just thinking aloud, based on the past performance, what is likely. The current Mercedes A class (FWD) platform cars are real trash to drive and still the A class is among the top ten most sold cars in UK! The Consumer Reports announced that the GLA is the LEAST satisfying car in America; yet the people buy it in droves.
So, it is not that the market for cars with a luxury badge is rational.

As for Audi, I don't find those cars very appealing.
