I donīt know - but can take a guess, with limited experience. I come from the SAAB World, and to start with hourly rates for shops are about 50% higher.

I was - slightly - disappointed with steering precision/handling on my X4 - all performance goodies/20" wheels- so I bought H&R springs directly from Germany. Dealer wanted 8 hours at SEK 1200/hour=SEK 9600 - $1000 - Ģ800 to swap. Independent shop did it for 4 hours at 800/hour=SEK 3200.

My electrically operated BMW towhook stopped working. Dealer told me it was a software error - reprogramming would cure it. Reprogramming was free, but dealer still charged SEK 1000 for hooking up instrument! I.e. BMW knew they had made a programming error with towhook, but neglected to make a recall!

With this attitude there should be a lot of "easy money" also for mechanics.
