The entire field is the closest in racing and qualifying pace it ever has been in the history of F1. Jim Clark used to win races by 300-400 seconds...and MB never needed anything but average drivers to win for years on end due to having nearly 100 more hp than the next nearest car. Now that there is more balance of power and equalized budgets, it really shows who can develop vs who simply just spent the most to win in the past. The driver makes more of a difference now than has been the case for maybe decades. A small mistake could drop you 3-6 places in a race so I think that speaks to how close it is as well.
